'Working' sighthound breeds, including greyhounds and lurchers, often end up as victims of dreadful abuse and neglect. While there are many organisations carrying out wonderful work highlighting the cruelty of racing and working sighthounds, we felt compelled to share the stories of Amber and Iris. These two lurchers were picked up as strays and given into the care of District Dog Rescue, Warrington.

UPDATE: SATURDAY 23 APRIL 2005
Both girls are now in new homes. This has happened very quickly and both girls have shown remarkable progress. Thank God for people like Catherine and the angels at (Warrington Rescue) and Claire, Gary, and the wonderful people at White Lodge Long Dogs Rescue.
Amber is now settling in to her new home. She is still very thin, but as you can see, nothing like the starved creature that was first taken in just a few weeks' ago:

And then there's Iris. She lost the rest of her tail, but her neck cleared up with good veterinary care and the love and attention she received... She's now Lottie and happily living with Mary. Don't they just look the picture of happiness?
